It’s 2004. You’re in your bedroom, collaged in pages from YM and Teen People. You’re listening to a Destiny’s Child CD on your Sony discman. You hear the doorbell ring, it’s your best friend. They want to go to the mall and check out the earrings at Claire’s.
Covid-19? Kylie Jenner? Tik Tok? Housing crisis?
You put some butterfly clips in your hair, grab your Steve Madden platform slides, and tell your mom you’ll be home before it gets dark. Time for shopping and an Orange Julius.
Life is good.
Molly JF Caldwell is a yonsei visual artist and cultural worker based in Mohkinstis (“Calgary, AB”) She graduated from the local art school in 2017 with a bachelor of fine arts. Some of her interests include Marxist Feminism, Mariah Carey, and textiles.
